I just purchased a new western digital SE 60 gig with 8 mb
cache. I'm trying to install windows XP Professional.

I fomatted the entire drive to a single NTFS Partition
using partition magic. I have the latest BIOS ofr my
motherbaord (Asus A7M266) and the drive is the primary
master, and IS detected in POST.

When I put the XP cd in the drive, the cd boots, and
promts me with "Setup is inspecting your computer's
hardware configuration" -- It freezes at that point.

When I try using a boot disk, and navigating to the I386
folder, and running winnt.exe, I am prompted with a blue
setup screen which says. "An internal Setup error has
occurred. Could not find a place for a swap file. Detp
cannot continue. Press Enter to exit."

I check the microsfot HCL, and the western Digital SE 60
gig 8mb cache, is not listed. Could this have something to
do with my problem?

How do I go about getting XP to install properly?

Hi Raymond,

Remove the partition created by PM, boot the WinXP CD, let it create the
partition and format as part of setup. See if this helps.
