Hi,

I am trying to recover a hard drive (60Gb). To do so I
would like to set it up as a slave in an other computer.

Unfortunatelly when I do so, the machine boots and
immediately performs a scandisk as it detects the new
drive. The scandisk goes through all 3 steps succesfully,
then hangs! not a schace to enter Windows (XP) with the
other drive connected (as slave).

Does anyone have an idea why scandisk would get stuck at
the end of the process, or is there a way to not run
scandisk during XP's boot?

I don't have to option not to run scandisk at the
begining, it starts immediately!
I even tried in safe mode, no chance.

Any suggestions?
Or any recommendation on an other methode to recover
a "defective?" drive?

Thanks for any help.

I would try to hook the drive up as a single master drive and see what
happens. If all is good just format it then put ur original drive in too as
master and the other as slave.

Its odd you don't get a chance to cancel it, try the command

chkntfs /T

Whats the autocheck timeout set to?
The default should be set to 10 seconds

Heres a useful link

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q218/4/61.ASP&NoWebContent=1

Its windows 2000 but still applies.
