I have a laptop with win XP (family version) and a
desktop with win XP (pro version). On both I have
installed Office XP.
On the laptop I can access speech recognition and
everything is fine and dandy ! On the desktop with win XP
pro I cannot get speech recognition. Why ?
Can someone help or at least explain how I can use my
desktop for speech recognition which I find fascinating ?

Speech recognition is added with Office XP. Possibly you didn't
install that component when installing Office XP. To see if Speech
Recognition is installed go to Speech in the Control Panel. If Speech
Recognition is installed you will see a Speech Recognition tab there.

If it is not there you will need to install Speech Recognition. To do
that open Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. In the list of
currently installed programs select Microsoft Office XP and click
Change. Click Add or Remove features and then Next. Under Features to
Install double click Office Shared Features. Double click Alternative
User Input, select Speech, click the down arrow and select Run from My
Computer. Click Update. That should install Speech Recognition on
your laptop.

it is in your setup of office xp. if you got the same office xp version in
your home computer, just check the setup...most likely it is there.

Hi,

In the computer where u cannot get speech recognization
do the following. start word and click on Tools | Speech
and then u will be prompted to configure the speech and
create a speech profile. Complete that and then u will
