New programs installed...

When I install a program on XP Home the usual balloon
pops up when I click START next to 'All Programs' to let
me know there is a newly installed program in my Start
Menu which are kindly highlighted. Cool. I know I can
also switch this function off through properties. I also
know that after a time this balloon disappears once I
have used the program and all of its functions. My
problem is that the last few programs I installed are
still highlighted even after I have used them and the
balloon popup won't disappear unless I disable it in
properties. Can someone suggest why this is happening and
how I can rectify this without manually disabling the
function. I hope this makes sense. Cheers Keith

i have noticed this to be the case if the program's shortcut folder in the
start menu has entries other than just the program's executable. running
these other items in the folder should eventually make the highlight
disappear just as the executable's did.
