sounds difficult :) first thing would be to check to see
if your file system is NTFS, if so you'll have to convert
it back to FAT16 (I think you can't even have FAT32 with
3.1, but I maybe wrong) which may not even be possible.
The best thing to do would be to create a new partition,
for which you could chose the type of filesystem, then
use a boot loader or something (try
http://download.com.com) to create a duel boot, or more
simply use a bootable floppy.... I guess it's obvious we
are touching on the edge of my knowledge :)
make sure you have an emergancy repair disk for your xp
installation! :) the xp cd has a great MBR repair utility
too
