OK, I imported that registry file Will suggested to solve a Folder
View problem but it caused me to lose all ability to access files on
my system through explorer or any other way. I am totally shut out.

Is there anyone on now who can help?

This is a copy of Will message and a link to the file I ran:

>View settings are limited to 400. Try the following link to increase those settings to 8000:
>
>Line 2 - left hand side
>http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

I note the followng discrepancies from the file Will suggested

Second Line: The on e that says [..\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]) --that
key is just not there. No such animal.

The fourth line says "BagMRU Size"=dword:00001f40 but the registry
says has a "0x" in front of the 00001f40 number.

The ShellNoRoam key is supposed to be :00001f40 per the file I was
using but the registry says 0x00000000(0)

And the final setting in ...\Policies\Exploerer, the one that says
"NoSaveSettings... dword:00000000" is NOT there either.

Hi,

Ok that was traumatic but I survived. Yes, I was able to use System
Restore and all is well again. I had to reinstall my newsreader so I
could get back to you.

Yes, I followed Will's instrction and those at the web site he directd
me to. The file "i,mported" fine, but the solution was a bigger
problem than I had before.

Anyway, now I'm back where I started and that is fine with me.

My original problem was that folders I want to be permanently set for
icons keep changing back to details even though I have set the
remember settings feature and have NOT clicked on the apply to all
folders button.

Wll thought I was surpassing the 400 folder view limit of Windows and
suggested this fix as a means of increasing the number to 8000.

Clearly, it did not work. And I'm pretty sure I did everything as
directed.

Thanks for your help. I am happy to be up and running again.

Bob
