Answering Machine

I remember with Window 95/98 there is a program that
answers phone calls. I think it's called Call Center. I
would like to know if there is a built-in program in
Windows XP Profession that would replace my external
answering machine unit. Please advice...

Unfourtunatly there isnt. With many modems comes fax software from Cheyanne.
Cheyanne is a fax and message centre and the old version I had also
supported multiple voice mail boxes. Check your modem driver disk for any
such software, otherwise there should be pleanty of applications avaliable
to download that will so this.

You may also want to check that windows xp has got your modem set up as an
audio input and output device. To do this open the volume control (start >
all programs > accessories > entertainment > volume control) and select
Options > properties. Under mixer device, check that there is your sound
card and also a modem or other device. Cancel out of here and if there was a
modem in the list, you have answerphone compatibility. Otherwise check if
your modem supports it and install updated drivers.

Only for fax. I've found one of the best answering machines to be
SuperVoice. Find it here: http://www.supervoice.com/ - runs well in XP, no
issues.
