View Full Version : Boot Up Problem

Been having lots of little problems with Windows XP, the
current one is a boot up problem. When the computer is
turned on sometimes Windows boots up fine but other times
it does not. By resetting one to six times Windows will
finally boot up.

Then one day the machine booted up fine, but when on-line
the machine shut down. Screen went dark, modum shut down,
no warning. Computer will not reset or react to anything.
Shut it down and restart - the screen flashes a
message, "Off Mode in 5 seconds" but it went dark and the
power indicator on the screen indicated it was in sleep
or off mode. I put the XP disk in the computer, restarted
and this time it booted and so far is running fine.

I have McAfee virus protection and they find no signs of
a virus.

QUESTIONS: I am considering reinstalling XP, hoping that
the problem is software and the reinstall will solve the
problem(s). Is this a good idea?

If I reinstall do I first uninstall the current XP
program or just insert disk and install?

Clearly, I know very, very little about computers and any
input must be very specific.

Your help is appreciated.

Doug

Hi

Before a Repair Install, can you have a look in your motherboard's =
manual to see if any kind of monitoring 'device' is included to check =
for, perhaps overheating or any other anomalies during boot-up.
