View Full Version : Disabling ECP Port

I have Windows XP Pro on an office machine that has an NEC Superscript 870
connected to it. NEC has a status monitor that acts as a driver and does
other things (2-up, duplex, etc.). It WILL NOT work with an ECP parallel
port. NEC suggests disabling it both in the BIOS setup and in Windows,
configuring the port as a standard port. There is no apparent update on the
NEC site beyond these instructions.

I have changed the setting in the BIOS, but it still is read as an ECP port
in Windows. Despite looking in every nook and cranny in Windows, I can't
find where to diable this (this includes the printer properties). Can
anyone help with this issue? The printer has gone from being blazing fast
to being incredibly pokey--using the supplied WinXP driver.

Thanks.

Did you disable the parallel port, or did you change the ECP designation to
something other, such as EPP? Did you perform a "save" and "exit" from the
bios? If you didn't, the change did not take place!

Have you thought about installing a plain printer port card. worked for me
when needed.
