.txt to .htm

Before I got WinXP, I could make an html file out of a
text file in notepad by putting in html tags and
generally doing everything you could do by opening view
source in Internet Explorer.

I could then rename the file from whatever.txt to
whatever.htm and check it with IE. Now WinXP won't let
me rename a .txt file to a .htm file.

Am I missing something?

In Explorer go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck Hide extensions
for known file types.

When you are using "Hide Known File Extensions," it can be a little
tricky getting the extension you want attached to a file.

TIP: When you save the file in notepad, put the file name and desired
extension in quotes. Typing "webpage.html" will give you an html file.
If you leave out the quote marks, you end up with webpage.html.txt
instead.
