i recently purchased a new dell desktop with windows xp
home edition. I now am going to reformat my dell
inspiron laptop that came with windows 95 and i want to
know if i can use my windows xp home edition cd to load
on the laptop after it is reformated. I have added
enough addional ramm.

Hello Robin,
Legally, no. Technically, maybe. The older laptop may not be able to =
handle the newer technology and higher demands of XP.

In addition to Brian's response, you can only have XP activated on one
system. In the case of OEM software, that supplied by the hardware
manufacturer, it may be tied to the system BIOS and/or the motherboard.
Hence, it may not even install and second, if it does you may not be able to
activate it as it was likely activated at the factory on a previous setup,
in which case it would quit working after 30 days.
