I know this can be done because I have actually done it, but being a
bear of little brain cannot recall how.

We have set things up so that different users cannot access other
users' documents, but in some desktops (not all) the folders for other
users are still there. If you click on them you are denied access. How
can I get rid of those folders?

TIA

Right-click the My Documents folder in question and choose Sharing and =
Security. On the Sharing tab, is a checkbox to "Make this folder =
private." Check that.

Thanks Patty, but this is already done, and is, I think, what prevents
each of us from being able to open another's Documents folder. I set
this up in the past, though until you reminded me I couldn't remember
how I did it. (But in every desktop the Sharing tab settings are now
all greyed out and cannot be changed. This doesn't matter too much as
I cannot think of any reason why I would want to change it.
Nevertheless do you have any idea why it is greyed out and how to get
it back?).

Since typing the above I've made a closer check. In my son's desktop
the box you refer to is checked on his My Documents properties and
every setting on the tab is greyed out. On my desktop the same box for
his documents is not checked, and again everything is greyed out.

What my question concerns is less important, but having half done it I
would like to be able to complete the job. We can (in some cases only)
still see each other's Documents icons, though we are refused access
if we click on them. Nobody else can see mine. I can see everybody
else's on my desktop. My wife can only see her own. My kids can see
each others' and my wife's. This is a result of incomplete settings I
made earlier, but I can't recall how I did it. I was probably
following instructions on one of the sites referred to from this
group.

In my desktop, although the main My Computer window differentiates
between My Documents and Other Users' Documents, I have My Computer on
a Task Bar at one side of the Desktop and this has 4 icons each
labeled My Documents (1 for each user!). Only my own can be opened.
I'd prefer not to see the other 3.

Regards

Rob

Rob, I don't have a multi-user setup to check this on, but I believe you =
see all the My Documents folders because you are an administrator. Is =
that the difference between who sees them and who does not? =20

Sorry about the delay in replying to this Pattie. Yes I think that
might be the explanation.
