Are there a software for faster defragmentation on window
XP pro? It takes me 2 days to defrag my computer. I think
it weird because i only use half of my 20GB and i have
256 MB of Ram.
Thanks

Two days is extrememly long. I don't know what's wrong with your
system to make it take this long, but something is.

I use and like the freeware version of Diskeeper.

Search on "Defrag" perhaps also with "XP" I seem to remember something
about newer versions being faster, but it might have been with Win ME....

-Also- is it continually "restarting" because something is running in the
background?
-Are you runing defrag in safe mode?
-have you turned off all unecessary background apps while defragging?
-Have you deleted all your temp files, cookies, etc before defragging?
-Is your swap file full of holes?
(If you have more than one drive or more than one partition- move it to a
different drive/partition and defrag....)

Is there a free version of that software? I went to the site and could
find no mention of it.

There is not a legal freeware version or even shareware. At time you can
get a demo with a time limit. Well worth the money.

If that's the case, then it's changed recently. There was a
freeware version.

Yes, but it's still only a 30-day trial.
FWIW, the XP defrag is a bare-bones prog written for them by Executive, but
nowhere near as efficient.

I'm running V7.0.422.0 in 'Set it and Forget it' mode - if I run it manually
to check whether that mode is working , it usually finishes in about 30secs.
Wouldn't be without it, as it runs while you're working without having any
slowdown effect. It is also programmable to defrag any other drives,
non-running OS's or partitions you may have. You get what you pay for in
this case.

The version I run is called "Diskeeper Lite," and is freeware,
not a trial version. Although looking at their web site now, it
would appear that they no longer offer this--just a trial
version.

Yes, that's the old freeware one, which you have to run manually - no bells
& whistles.
For anyone interested, I found one link whee it's still available (all
others redirect to the Executive web-site) -
http://www.webattack.com/get/dkeeperlite.shtml

Yep, Ken . . . the marketing folks took Diskeeper Lite off the site.
With Diskeeper Home Edition selling for only about $25 to $30, I guess
they figured the Lite (free) version wasn't necessary.

I hope this helps -

Thanks for the clarification. They must have done it when I
wasn't looking. ;-)
