Hi,
Every time I click on Control Panel to try and remove a program the computer
locks up and I have to delete it another way. Anyone any idea as to the
cause/remedy?

Check the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer for
error messages that may belong to this.
Run the System File Checker from Start > Run with the command
SFC /scannow
If you used a Registry cleaner recently: undo the latest changes that
the tool made to the Registry.
As a last resort see: "How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade
(Reinstallation) of Windows XP"
