My father is copying old home videos onto DVD (over 200 hours). It is no small undertaking. We have been putting it on the hard drive, using movie maker and then burning it to a DVD. Then we erase the files off of the hard drive.

How can I retrieve video from DVDs to make a "Best OF" DVD without going back to the tapes? Any add on to Movie Maker? Any software suggestions?

Example: Aunt Lucy dies and we want to make video for the funeral. One DVD has a two minute clip at my daughters birthday party. Another has her at my sister's wedding for a 5 minute clip. How can I put those two together straight from the DVDs we created.

Movie Maker does not currently support importing video output as DVD files, but programs like Sonic MyDVD ( http://www.mydvd.com ) should be able to do exactly what you describe.
