When i try to run defrag it comes up with an error saying
that it has aborted due to inconsistences in the computer
and that i should run scandisk or chkdsk to fix this
problem. But I can't find scandisk anywhere on my
computer, the search doesnt even find it. So i ran chkdsk
and it will only open in readonly and i let it run
through but it still didn't fix the problem. How can I
get scandisk back on my computer without having to
reinstall windows?

You don't. ScanDisk is not part of XP. Go here:

- do a chkdsk c: /f (of course, if you have more than one drive, you may
change c: to any appropriate drive)
- reply with a y (for yes - run checkdisk when you boot your computer)
that should fix any problem your hard drive may have.
