Start - Help and Support - search for Compatibility Wizard.

Start/run "cmd" to open the DOS emulator. Note that programs requiring
direct hardware access will probably not work. You can try the Program
Compatibility Wizard as well, click start/programs/accessories.

Having read the "program compatability" advice a hundred times in the =
last week I feel compelled to have a infrequent but regular rant.

The program compatability wizard sets 4 compatability options (out of =
the few hundred available). It lies about the version number in a =
particular API call and sets 3 windows graphics functions.

None of these are used by dos. Dos calls the Dos API which compatability =
doesn't affect.

Therefore the Program Compatability wizard has no effect on dos =
programs. One would use the dos command setver for an equilevent to =
compatability options.

Like Dos the Dos sub system in XP can be configured in pretty much the =
same way. If a program doesn't run then why? not enough memory - =
reconfigure to give it more memory, not enough handles - reconfigure to =
give it more. Just like old dos, XP's dos needs to be tailored for the =
program.

XP's Dos is version 5.5 (an emulated version of Dos 5, that is the =
second last standalone version of dos). The program must be written for =
Dos 5 or earlier.
