SP2 in only a Release Candidate. The official one is supposed to be
released at the end of this month (August) or in early September.

Tell your "someone" to prove to you it is available as a non-*BETA*
download, like have them give you the URL. Otherwise, their just
blowing smoke in your face if they cannot prove what they claim is true.
If you want to waste your own time, just do a search at
http://search.microsoft.com on "Windows XP SP2". Or, you know you could
turn on Automatic Updates and have it tell you when it becomes a
released version and is available. Just be sure to do a backup or disk
image before installing it.

They removed the XPSP2 Release Candidate 2 from the external website. It was
there for anybody to download and evaluate but they are getting ready to ship
SP2 so they no longer need the product to be in beta.
Thanks,
Sean

It was possible until early this week to download a 'preview' version
for test and evaluation. This has been removed in advance of the final
release, which is thought to be imminent but has not happened yet

Final testing was completed this morning and build 2180 was released to
manufacturing. Look for the release on WU starting on the 10th of this
month.
