View Full Version : Sharing files on 2 remote computers

Win XP HE
Hi,
I was wondering what is the simplest way to run a small .exe file (a
utility) that is on my C drive (local) on a folder that is on one of my
friends' own C (local) Drive at a remote location.
I was told I could do that by "sharing" his folder while we are connected
but being a complete newbie to actually doing this, I have no idea of how to
proceed.
Anyone can help me with easy to follow simple instructions on how to do the
above?
(Please let me know if this is not the correct newsgroup.)
Tx a lot.

For your friend to simply share his folder with you requires that he
share it with the world, which is rather dangerous.

To securely share a folder, use VPN. Virtual Private Networking creates
an encrypted channel of communications from one PC (yours) to another
PC (his), using the internet to deliver the packets. This is not
trivial to set up, but it works fine.

For a simpler solution, send your .EXE as an email attachment to your
friend, and let him run it on his folder. He can then send the results
back to you as an email attachment.

Thanks for your comments, Bob.
I will consider the email solution you proposed.
As far as VPN, can I do that using VNC, etc?

You can *securely* do that with UltraVNC because of its *encryption* plug-in. Otherwise run VNC
through a VPN tunnel...which gets you back to Bob's original suggestion...
