Yes, its the correct build. I just used Winver, and it reports "Version 5.1
(Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2)"

Note the date (040803). This version was just built on Tuesday.

Norman:

If you run the winver cmd from within a Command Prompt session you should
see:
"Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2)"

the size of SP2: 80 - 120 MB

Hi Rosenthal.

Some version isn't correct.
To be sure you also have to look on the size of the SPS
The correct size vil be 80 - 120 MB
A wrong size could be 250 MB ( it includes some test code)

I understand that the final release of SP2 has not yet occurred [I have seen
several places that stated that it would appear on the Windows Update site
Aug. 10]. It is not yet there since I checked a few minutes ago. That leads
to the inevitable question: where did you get what you apparently think is
the final release? Please do not answer. Since Slashdot apparently knows
more than I or you [or maybe Mr. Ballmer or Mr. Gates], address your
question to them.

Norman,

If we (Microsoft) gave it to you why are you questioning the validity?
Where exactly and who supplied it to you ?

I signed up for the beta testing, and reported bugs from time to time, =

Hi Bill - Courtesy of MVP Torgeir Bakken, here's the current schedule for
release as we know it now:

"Hi

Early next week you should be able to download it (see table below).

I would think that at least the standalone (network) installation will
be available from this URL (note that the URL is not active yet):

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp2/

Here is the distribution plan:

09. August Release to Microsoft Download Center (network
installation package)

10. August Release to Automatic Updates (for machines running
pre-release versions of Windows XP Service Pack 2 only)

16. August Release to Automatic Updates (for machines NOT running
pre-releases versions of Windows XP Service Pack 2)

16. August Release to Software Update Services

Later in August Release to Windows Update for interactive user
installations

You'll need your beta login info to access it here:

Then as an MSDN subscriber and reading the description of the product you
downloaded you know exactly what it is and do not require any further
information such as MD5 hashes or file names etc. It is all clearly labelled
on the MSDN site.

That is what Winver will report for you with the final build (2180)
Why 2158 rather than 2180 is not clear - 040803 appears to refer to 3
August 2004

Alex/Norman:

2158 refers to 9:58 PM per another user's post

They will all be the same. It has now been pointed out that just as the
040803 is date, the 2158 is time. Service pack build numbers do not get
shown. To be quite sure of build number, go to a central component; eg
C:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll Right click take Properties and look on
the version page, which will give major OS Version and build followed by
the modules own build, in this case
5.1.2600.2180

(Windows 5.1; build 2600 - ie XP; with a module build 2180 - ie included
in SP2)
