try computer in a clean boot of XP to see if it will
allow you to log off. Start\run\msconfig
got to startup tab, disable all. Goto Services tab. Hide
All Microsoft services, then uncheck the rest. Restart
computer by clicking ok.
If this works then turn on items a little at a time
restarting each time until you narrow down what is
causing the problem.
