View Full Version : SP2 problem with Photoshop 6

I am having Windows XP Home Edition installed my Laptop (Acer Aspire
1356LCi) and Adobe Photoshop 6.01.
A couple of days I installed XP SP2 (final) and everything runs quite
smoothly: no problem whatsoever. But one problem occurred when
starting PS 6.01: It starts remarkably slower than with XP SP1 and
furthermore opening picture (normal jpg or tiff format sized around
1MB) is also remarkably slower.
I have not measured the difference between those times but as I said
they are very well noticeable. Actually I could measure the time
because I still have disk images both XP with SP1 and SP2. Both
installs are other ways exactly similar.
Has anyone else noticed this problem?
I have recreated PS's preferences – no help.

I haven't noticed a speed reduction in PS6 since applying XPSP2. Do you
notice the same problem in Image Ready? Defragging the hard drive after
the update may not hurt, NTFS is efficient but far from perfect. Where
does it seem to hang up? I know there has been some complaint of Fonts
taking too long to register with Photoshop after it has been updated
from 6.0. Perhaps SP2 triggered that event? My final comment is that SP2
has a larger RAM footprint than SP1a - there are more processes running
and more RAM consumption and more CPU utilization, though the CPU
carries the least brunt of the impact. If you have a low level of RAM
this may adversely affect the system. Photoshop on XP should see your
system at the very minimum of 256MB and even there you will see some
negative effects and worse with large images.

Thank You both trying to help me (PsyB and Ravickumar M). Anyway
nothing seems to help.
ImageReady works as quick as with sp1.
I have defragged my drives as well.
First hang occurs right when clicked the PS's shortcut: program opens
with the grey background and then very long wait for the splash
screen. Secondly when I open a image file (no matter tiff or jpeg
format) sized about 1.5MB it takes very long time to open the image.
I am having 512MB RAM. I know it could be better with some more but
this computer and Photoshop works quickly enough for me with XPSP1.
I have also reinstalled the PS but that did not help me either.
