Whatever criteria I specify (eg my name, to find my
recent posts) I always get no search results. What am I
doing wrong?

Hi Elaine,
You probably aren't doing anything wrong, it's just that the search engine
in the Web interface stinks. Try using a newsreader to access these groups.
It is faster and more functional. This link I wrote will help you set it up:

The main thing you're doing wrong is reading newsgroups with the
Web-based interface. This is the slowest, most difficult way to
do it, and it makes it very difficult to find messages.
It's far better to read and participate in newsgroups by using
appropriate newsreader software. You already have such a
program--Outlook Express, which comes with Windows--but there are
many other choices, and you can use whichever you prefer. I
recommend starting with what you have--Outlook Express; you can
always go to another product if you want to later.

What you are doing wrong is using a web-based newsreader.
Use Outlook Express, and set your Server to news.microsoft.com. Or,
download another newsreader such as Free Agent.
