I have a DSL modem/router and a 5 port Belkin switch. Two outputs from the
switch go to an XP and a Win98 machine. Everthing was working fine for the
last 2-3 months. Now I notice 2 monitor icons in my Taskbar with a red X
over them. Moving the pointer over the icons reveals a message 'Local Area
Connection 2. A Network Cable is unplugged'. Checked all connections several
times. SP2 was downloaded 2 nights ago. New MSN firewall is not used. Any
connection? Thanks for your help.

No errors in Device Manager. In Network Connection there is an error for the
connection but the properties window says the device (Linksys NC100 Adapter)
is working properly.

Solved the problem: used Restore and icons plus red X disappeared from
Taskbar.
