I installed MS office XP on machine with Windows ME. It
ran fine. Upgraded machince to XP. XP machine has 2
users. Now everytime I ran on office program, I get the
Windows Installer pop saying the feature you are trying
to use is on CD-ROM.. Insert the Microft Office XP disk
and click ok. When disk is inserted program runs. Usure
why I have to have CD-ROM in to run office. Also it
cannot find the start up document template (regardless of
program). Tried to reinstall program setup.exe from CD-
ROM and get windows intaller pop up "the patch package
could not be opened...". I tried using repair via the
add / remove programs with the same error. I tried
disabling windows installer via regedit. Any ideas???
This is home computer.
Thanks

Hi
Disabling Windows Installer is not the way to go. Never use the =
Registry to disable anything. Start>Run - then type in "services.msc" - =
without the quotes. Scroll down to Windows Installer and start it, if =
you haven't deleted through the Registry. The Windows Installer service =
is there for a purpose - to install & uninstall programs. If that =
doesn't work look for the .MSI file on the XP Office CD and try again. =
The Windows Installer service must be running though.

Try This:
Do a complete uninstall of Office XP. Then run a
Registry checker/cleaner. Then restart. Next Re-install
Office XP. Some Applications installations do vary from
WinME to Win XP and some components will get traded from one
Windows version to another. Run the reg cleaner/checker
again afterwards. Then try to use. Good Luck.
