View Full Version : Is XP SP2 REALLY worth the upgrade?

I have been reading the boards for the past few days since SP2 was released.
Seems as though it is not totally bug free and more than a few people are
having problems. What do most of you think about updating to SP2? Is it
really worth it? What would be some of the benefits (from an END-USERS view,
I know what MS says)

Unsure. I work at an ISP and we are getting reports of
users with NAV having major issues. It looks like NAV
real time protection is struggling, everything you do has
a delay. Disable NAV and it works fine, enable it
everything is slow. Anyone else have this issue?

The NAV problems are real. I think MS has a document on it.

Here's one for instance...I have a problem with my security system since
installing SP2. I contacted the manufacturer...I think you'll find their
reply interesting:
"You will have to run the digicam without the service pack 2; microsoft
released info that it would and could cause problems with alot of other
software. So the only solution is to not use it."

James,
If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it. If your SP-1(a) system is patched
up to date there are no worries waiting. SP-2's primary function it seems
is protecting the newbies who haven't a clue as to the need for AV/Firewall
protection. Yes there are security updates/patches within SP-2 but nothing
earth shattering for those who keep themselves properly protected.
Ace,
As for Norton's products, i have Internet Security 2004. I did a format,
reinstalled XP then installed SP-2 after which i installed NIS. I've had no
problems albeit there was over 60 MB of updates to the program after i
installed it. XP Security Center sees both AV & Firewall as being Norton's
and enabled.

Hey Testy,
How come you have already upgraded your system to SP2?. Your messages
show you are using:
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180
This indicates SP2 is running better than ever!!
We were led to believe that you will never upgrade your system to SP2
until MS has ironed out all problems. Are you now satisfied that the
roblems are all cleared? It is a bit early to be convinced don't you
think so?
Join the MS club and enjoy SP2.

Turn off NAV before downloading SP2. After the install is
complete, turn NAV back on. No sweat, no strain, NAV is working
with SP2 installed.
