My taskbar stops auto-hiding

I have the auto-hide box checked in properties, but it
won't hide. I'll uncheck it, apply, re-check it, apply,
and it'll go away. . . until I access it, then it stays
up again. Logging out and back in doesn't help, and
neither does restarting. Microsoft says I'm the only
person having trouble, yet many user groups have posting
of the same issue. No one has been able to tell me or
others the reason or the fix. I do have all the updates,
patches, fixes, etc.
