Search Disappeared

Suddenly, I am no longer able to search. When I select the option from the
start menu, the search frame appears, but it is empty. The same is true
when select the search icon on IE. Oddly, no version number shows up when I
select About IE under help.

Should I reinstall XP (which has been installed for over a year).

You could try re installing Internet Explorer.
IE can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/ie or if you go to your local
bookshop, you could purchase one of the pc magazines that come with the free
software cd's. These usually have the latest version of internet explorer on
them and can save you a large download.
