Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A45 notebook.
It has a Pioneer DVD (Multi) writer and came with XP home.

I could not use the DVD 'Writer' functionality thru XP Home
(It would not detect the blank DVD)

I have now upgraded to XP Pro (with no service packs) and
the DVD writer works.

With XP Pro (no service packs ) there are other
problems ....
Remote Connection Manager does not work - Error 711
(and cannot set up a dial-up for internet)

When I applied SP2, DVD writing stopped working.
(It would not detect the blank DVD)
But the Remote Access connection manager issue was
resolved.
(I can use the Dial-up I had set up in XP home)

What should I do to get both? (DVD writing as well as Dial-
up)

Go to the manufacturers site of your DVD writer and download the latest XP
drivers.I just did a quick search on their site and depending on the model of
A45 you have there are tons of updates to the drivers and even ones for the
DVD Drivers. {]:~)

Good Idea. Additionally, i would try to install DVD software if included in
the Factory restore CD set. I had to re-install WinDVD on my toshiba laptop
which came in system restore CD.

hope this helps
