Turn the AV autoscan off for sure or your installation may be corrupt. Once
you've downloaded it, disconnect from the internet and disable Internet
Security as well.

Disconnect *after* downloading and *before* installing. Then, when you've
gotten rid of MS sorry assed excuse for a firewall, put Norton back on and
reconnect. You don't need to be online to install it.

Krell, This morning I saw a message, repeated below, on another news
website. Hope it might be of some interest to you.
If you find that Security Center in SP2 tells you that it is unable to
determine the status of Norton Antivirus, you will need to do a manual Live
Update of NAV. The auto updates give you virus definition updates, but not
program updates. Open NAV and click the Live Update button. The program
update available will fix the issue.

The install wants to contact MS during installation. Since
auto-update is designed to work and complete the
installation while on-line and with a "normal" running
configuration, it should work without requiring too much in
the way of special setup.

BTW, the only issue I have found was iTunes did not fully
load after SP2, the gearsec.exe program stopped. Since I
never used iTunes, I just deleted it. Apple may need to
patch iTunes for Windows.

Hi, I'm downloading SP2 now. I was just wondering if I should turn off
Norton Internet Security and Anti Virus before installing it by disabling
the 'load on startup' option?

Thanks.

Disconnect from the Net? I'm on broadband so I'd have to switch my cable
modem off. If I did this might SP2 not connect I have broadband during
installation and cause problems when I switch my connection back on?

Thanks

Disconnected and installed. Now reconnected and everything seems ok. I
disabled security center and the microsoft firewall and restarted norton.

The auto-update works in two stages. First it downloads all the modules
needed. During this you can carry on normally. It then enters the
actual installation; at that point have the regular Windows firewall on
for safety and turn Norton - and similar things - off. That phase will
take 20 minutes or so, and during it you do not need a net connection
active
