View Full Version : Unable to configure Decay.scr screen saver in Windows XP Pro SP1

After recently installing XP Pro, SP1, I find that my favorite screen saver
isn’t recognized properly. Granted, the screen saver was written for Win3.1,
but it's worked fine up through Win 2k SP5. The screen saver is named Let
the Screen Decay with the file name Decay.scr

I’ve tried copying it to the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory with no effect,
as well as renaming it to “ssDecay.scr”. I’ve tried launching it from the
Windows Explorer (after fixing the problem with AutoCAD script file
associations) which activates it but does not set it to default. I’ve added
it to the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\SCRNSAVE.EXE
with the value C:\WINDOWS\Decay.scr. This last fix seems to have made it the
default screen saver because it activates after the ScreenSaveTimeOut value
is met, however it still doesn’t show up in the list of screen savers on the
Screen Savers tab in the Display Properties dialog, so I therefore have no
way to change the settings or activate the password feature.

Does anyone have other ideas on how to get XP to recognize it, or possibly a
suggestion for a similar screen saver that works with XP?
