Sorry to say that I cannot look into the future. However,
USB devides are surposed to work for a long time more
before it becomes obsolete.

About your ext. tape backup drive, try looking for the
most recent drivers from the manufacturers website. I am
sure there will be a driver for Win 2000. I could help you
look for the manufacturers website but you have to let me
know the Make and model of the device.
