I would very much appreciate if some one can tell me as to how to do a clean
installation of Windows XP Home edition upgrade to an existing system
operating on Windows 2000 Pro? Thanks.

when you insert the XP disk in the drive and boot from the CD delete all the
partitions and reformat the drive.

Win2K is not a qualifying product for WinXP Home; it can only be
upgraded to WinXP Pro. Do you have a Win98/Me CD that you're planning
to use to qualify for the upgrade license? If so:

It's quite possible to perform a clean installation using the
Upgrade CD, provided you have the true installation CD for the earlier
OS.

Simply boot from the WinXP Upgrade CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. The Upgrade CD checks to see if a qualifying OS
is installed, and, if it finds none, it asks you to insert the
installation media (CD) of that OS. Unfortunately, an OEM
"Recovery/Restore" CD will not work for this purpose; you must have a
true installation CD, complete with the "\Win98" folder and *.cab
files, or the "\i386" folder of WinNT/2K.

Thanks. I do not know how I boot from WinXP Home CD! The message from the
upgrade CD is: The system is not compatible. It doesn't give me any more
option! I guess this is due to my running Win2K Pro. I tried to boot the
by pressing F8. But there is no option to boot from CD.

Greetings --

To boot from the CD, insert the CD, turn the computer off, and
then turn the computer back on. (You may also need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
