Not always attending to the computer throughout the 18 hours a day it is on.
Auto update is set for around 6 p.m. nightly. Will it stall waiting for an
OK or what?

SP2 will not install automatically. It requires user to accept EULA.

Then what is the point in only allowing "automatic" updates at
this time? Gives new meaning to automatic. Yea, I know I can
get the whole thing, but I only want the express download.

Most folks accept the default Auto Update settings, which notifies
them there is an update but they have to tell it to install them.
This works just fine for the Auto Update - Windows downloads the
updater, informs the user it's ready, and they tell it to
install/accept the EULA.
