I have a Windows XP Professional. Been trying to figure out a few things by
myself, without asking my husband. I have been trying to find what file
extensions I have on my computer, (what extension goes to what program),
seems like the only info I can find is what extentions are compatible on all
XP. I just want to know what is on my computer and where can I find it.
Also, here recently, on my pointer, occassionally a little disk shows up next
to my pointer. It shows up for a minute then disappears. what does that
mean? Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

The only thing you can check is what file types have been registered with
Windows. To do this go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types in Windows
Explorer. The system will scan the registry and tell you what file types
have been registered. Whether or not you have these files on the system is
another thing. It just means that something added an entry to your registry.

As far as the other pointer question it depends on how your pointer icons
are setup.

Go to Start > Control Panels > Mouse > Pointers

Look in that list for the pointer you describe and see what it means.

The little "disk" symbol could also be showing a disk trying to "autostart"
in your CD-ROM or CD-RW/ROM drives: if you don't know a Disk is in the Drive,
you might not think to check. It isn't "stupid" of you not to have checked:
just a simple oversight. If you find a disk there, of course, remove it: if
not, after you check your mouse pointer "symbol" cache (click "Start" then
"Control Pannel" and double-click on the Mouse Symbol and then click on the
"Pointer Tab") to see if that is a legitimate animated mouse pointer.
