View Full Version : Lost Internet Explorer

Hi,

My son messed around with something this afternoon and now I've lost access
to Internet Explorer. When I click on the icon, I get a box stating "Windows
cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item"

I am logged on as Admin, and get the error whether I click the icon, a
shortcut or a bookmarked link.

I am running XPsp1.

I have checked the event viewer. There would appear to be nothing amiss with
the Application part, but both the Security and System sections are coming
up as corrupt.

Any ideas, please.

Thanks
Ian.

I'd try a restore.

Tried that, only one restore point available, from Sunday, but the operation
failed.

Try this: right click the icon and select properties
In "Target" it should say "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Hope it helps!
P.S.: Give your son a whipping when it works again
