I'm having problem with slow start ups since installing a new sound card.I
notice when my computer boots up i have loads of programs starting up in my
task bar that i don't even use,is there any way i can stop these booting up?
Hopyfully this should get my system back on track.

Open up the offending programs and look for the option (options,
preferences, or similar menu wording) to start with windows and disable it.
Also look for shortcuts in the all programs\startup folder and delete as
necessary.

start - run, type msconfig. Go to your autostart, see if there is any
suspicius programs you don't use. You can view the path and hopfully unistall
or remove the files, or you can just unselect the programs from running

Most of those little icons will pop up a menu when you right click them. In
that menu you usually have preferences. Click preferences and tell it that
you do not want it to run automatically when XP starts. This is the easiest
way to do it. Then look in the Startup folder under the Start Menu\All
Programs menu and remove any short cuts from there that you do not want to
load. The rest will be in the registry. I will try to attach a freeware
program that will identify all processes and programs starting at bootup. If
they post allows the attachment, you can use it to get rid of startup apps
as well.

Just extract the file somewhere, and rename to file extension to exe. The
file is only 76 KB. the zip file password is "password" (without the
quotes). Sometimes password protecting the zip file will help get it past
the proxy server.
