Hello there-
I am having trouble with a particularly nasty spyware.
It is from Coolwebsearch
I'm not sure what it is doing to my coputer, but I'm sure I don't like it,
and I want to get rid of it.
I have tried system restore, but my computer won't let me restore to an
earlier date than when I got infected.
When I run spyware removers they say that they have been removed, but when I
run them again, they are back...the same ones.

Could you recommend something that I might try to rid my computer of this
nastiness.
An Anti-spyware program? A way to reset my system?
Something that I might do to keep these files from respawning in my computer
after I get rid of them?

I have tried everything that I can think of and nothing seems to work.

Thanks for your help,

I recommend Spybot-Search And Destroy or Ad-aware.

You're right about it being nasty. My dad's computer had the same problem. It
eventually infected Mcafee and then it kept programs from opening. Eventually
Windows said the paging file was too small, which is impossible with 2.5 gigs
to use as paging. Have you tried Spybot S&D? Also, try to see if it created a
system startup entry. Start> Run> msconfig. Then click the startup tab to see
if it's there. Uncheck it if it is, then scan for it.
Hopefully you can get rid of it.

If it respawns after removing it with cleaners find the .dll From the
spyware removal cleaners report, and delete it
Most likely it's in system32.

Try Cool Web Shredder and BHO Demon.

AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy are my usual favorites, but CoolWeb
can be nasty. I just fixed a computer that had about 200 CoolWeb entries and
it wasn't fun.

Good Luck

I had a very similar problem. I made sure I had all the latest updates for
AdAware and SpyBot S&D. Then I disabled my system restore function, shut
down, and restarted in safe mode. Then I ran the AdAware program,
quarantined the offending files, then deleted them from the quarantine file.
Next I ran SpyBot S&D, and made sure to immunize, and deleted the offending
files it found. Then be sure to do a virus check (make sure your antivirus
program is up to date). When you get finished, reboot in normal mode and
enable your system restore. Keep all programs up to date, activate a GOOD
firewall, and be wary of opening attachments, and be careful of the web
pages you visit. jav
