After struggling with a WIN XP reinstalll w/sp2, things
were starting to work out. THEN, I woke up this morning
to a Windows update message. I installed the update and
now my PC keeps shutting down "A problem has been detected
and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your
computer..." Tried starting up in Safe mode, but the same
thing keeps hapenning. God, Id hate to have to reinstall
Windows again!!! Help!!

OK, I guess I should have used a different subject
heading. No help in 30 minutes. patience is not my
strong suit. Can't just do nothing, so I'll try a repair
of XP. If that doesn't work, I'll Reinstall and then
upgrade with SP2 Againn. Oh Joy.

Thanks
Phil

That message sounds bogus. NEVER seen ANY legit message
from ANY ver. of Windows that says it's gonna shut me down to avoid
hardware damage. You usually just get a BSOD.

I think you're the victim of Messenger spam, and perhaps a bogus
Windows Update dialog delivered the same way...

No - that message does happen. Though it does not usually mention
hardware, but the form 'avoid damage to your computer', but I take that
to be his memory.

To the OP - Do not ask questions here if you expect answers within 30
minutes. You may luck out, but people responding are all around the
world, looking in at *their* convenience, not an every present group
just waiting for queries. So more like 30 hours
