Can anyone out there recommend an effective spam stopper
and spyware cleaner that will not slow my computer down?
I am getting inundated with porn, etc and my ISP has no
filters in place to slow this stuff down.....any good
ideas out there?

Thanks,
Deloy

You are looking for two separate programs. I don't know of any 1 that will
do what you ask!

I use PopUpCop, Ad-Aware 6.0 and SpyBot 1.2, all with the latest updates. I
don't have any spam filtering in place as I have not had too many problems
in this area yet

Thanks for your response.......I am aware that they are
separate programs......I need one of each......I am
getting so much filth via my e-mail it is
disgusting......my ISP does nothing to alleviate this and
apparently has no intention of doing anything.....have
been tempted to change to a different ISP but there are
not too many choices for cable hookups where I am and I
hate to change addresses again.....the pop ups are not
that much of a problem....at least most of them are not
pure filth..........
I am also concerned that they will slow down my
computer........as does Norton AV........does anyone know
if Zone Alarm Pro slows things down?
And does SpyBot, Ad-Aware, etc?
Thanks,
Deloy

SpyBot and Ad-Aware only run when YOU want them to! Therefore, no slow down.
Re: Norton AntiVirus.... I gladly trade off a small % of slow down for the
protection it offers. I have never gotten a virus!

ZoneAlarm is not intrusive at all. I don't even notice the program running.

Deloy,
I use Norton Internet Security's Firewall, A-V, and Spam Programs. They stop
almost all Pop-Ups. Some Spam does manage to get through but that will
happen with any programs. As for spyware/Add/phone home programs, both
Spybot-Search and Destroy and a similar program named Ad-Aware both do an
effective job. Some of my friends keep both on hand and run them. If you
want only one, get Spybot-Search and Destroy since I consider it to be the
better program. They are both available in free versions.

Thanks.........I am in the process of researching SpyBot
and think I will download it later this evening........
I currently have Zone Alarm and was just wondering if ZA
Pro would give me better protection.......and not sure
that SpyBot will protect me against Spam....other than
not allowing my address to be harvested....Or am I
totally misunderstanding what happens?......When I asked
my ISP about Spam, etc they told me it was Spyware
hijacking my address....is this right or are they blowing
smoke?
Thanks,
Deloy

Is the "...@ charter.net" address in your headers the one that's getting
all the spam? If so it may be because spambots harvest addresses from the
newsgroups, and you are inadvertently trolling for spam every time you post.
You may want to munge your address:
http://www.internet-tips.net/Email/SPAM_munging.htm or just use a disposable
(i.e.: hotmail) address when you post in the newsgroups.

This guy has a pretty thorough guide to setting up email spam filters:
http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/Email/filter1.htm
I have used MailWasher (freeware) to stop spam on my previous computer with
much success: http://www.mailwasher.net/

Regards,
Ian.
