Weird beeping sound after sp2 update

Hello all!
I really need your help!
I am running Win XP and everything was great, till I downloaded SP2 update-
there is a weird beeping sound keeps coming up from my speakers- I really
have no idea what is it. I run Norton Antivirus scan and it did not help.
Then I did restore on my computer to the previous date- I was getting
Internet explorer pop-up window every second with - Cannot find server-
error message- it would pop-up on my task bar for a second then disappear
and pop-up as a little window on my desktop. I installed SP2 again- and here
is beeping sound..... :-((( I am exhausted- please, HELP!

Also, I forgot to tell you- when I turned of my DSL modem- there is no sound
anymore!
