I'm running XP Pro on a new Dell. Tried loading SP2 and
had the following problems. Ended up uninstalling but not
sure if I should try again. These issues were immediately
evident.
1) could not reach news server. Found I had to turn off
both Windows firewall AND Norton firewall then was able
to reach the server. BUT, even after turning "off" the
Windows firewall, it's status was "on". Stayed "on" after
re-booting, but when attempting to turn "off" it was
still checked as "off".
2) Posted message to newsgroup with Outlook Express. I
had a fresh email address that had not been revealed to
news posts before, as I had entered an invalid email
address and an alias name under news accounts. First post
after XP2 revealed my VALID email address, plus my
complete given name! I can't even find where my complete
given name is on my PC. 30 minutes later I get my first
spam message to this fresh email address. I was safe for
about 2 weeks prior to trying SP2.
MS support says to reinstall. Any comments?
