OS: XP Home Edition with SP2

BACKGROUND:
Adshield free version 1.2 (& perhaps v 3.x) no longer
functions after installing SP2. Some websites assert
that it does work, or can be made to work. So far, they
don't give any details. After a clean install of
Adshield, every time IE (or My Computer, or Search) is
launched, a dialog box, entitled "Adshield", containing
the text "Error 0x800706ba reading the block list"
(refers to Adshield's block list) pops up. Nothing shows
up in the EventLog. I called Adshield and they said
they're working on the problem, but I'm impatient, so

QUESTION:
How do I make Adshield work?

There is currently no fix to make any build of AdShield work in SP2.
