Recently, I have been unable to access attachments. When
the email is opened there is a notation stating "OE
removed access to the following unsafe attachment in your
mail:" (subject named)
How does OE distinguish a "safe" from an "unsafe"
attachment? Can this feature of OE be defeated? Can this
feature be circumvented? How can I access the
attachments I believe to be safe?
Thanks for any assistnce rendered.

I have Outlook, but I think for Outlook Express Click on
Tools/Options/Security and uncheck the box for "Do not allow attachment to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Select apply. OK.
I used to have people just send the file and change the .exe or whatever to
..jpg. Then save the file on my pc and change the extention back to what is
was supposed to be. That always worked also.

It doesn't. It only says it's "potentially" unsafe, and it
removes access to all file types which are executable (including
those that could carry macro viruses).

Go to Tools | Options, and on the Security tab, uncheck "Do not
allow attachments..."
