XP bypasses safe mode

I can't get XP to go to the screen for the options that would let me
go into safe mode..................

When you boot the system, do you start pressing F8. Just pressing it once
won't do it, you must keep tapping it, this will eventually bring up a menu
that will let you select Safe Mode.
