Greetings, I'm new here...
I have Win XP pro and just updated to SP2 via the Windows Update web page on
my laptop. - Now my inbuilt DVD player/CD-R is not working as it should.
Sometimes it shows no files on the CD, sometimes it does.
A game I used to play (Deus Ex) before updating now refuses to work. I tried
re-installing the game, but no success.
My CD drive: Mat****a Ujda720 DVD/CDRW
Any ideas?
Yours,
Thor

Hi,
I have exact same problem on Compaq presario notebook
with LG DRN8080B DVD drive, HP asked me to uninstall SP2
and be happy again! Waiting to see what Microsoft has to
say...
Regards,
Rajiv.

Greetings! I have exactly the same problem with my IBM Thinkpad T40P. After
installing SP2 my DVD-CD Combo is no longer recognised. Does anyone have any
experience that he / she could share?

Perhaps, The standard procedure for a non-functioning CD/DVD unit
would be to go to Device Manager and Uninstall any instances of the
device in DVD/CD ROM category. Then reboot the PC and let XP
re-enumerate the device. Be sure while in Device Manager to click View
and tick "Show Hidden Devices" (Phantoms).
If the above procedure doesn't help, then I would go to the Vendor's
web-site and check for a Firmware update for the unit. While there do
a check on their support pages for any "Known" issues with your model
running under Service Pack 2.

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately it didn't help but I found out that
there is a glitch in the Microsoft Servicepack 2 that blocks the DVD combo.
The mistake hasn't been corrected and I had to re-install from an earlier
setpoint and now it works. I am told by IBM that downloading Servicepack 2
would provoque the same mistake. But I appreciate your help and hopefully
this helps others. Best regards Bruno

I am having the same problem with my drives! What exactly did you do to
correct it? If I uninstall SP2 will I be okay?
