I had installed sp2 and had some problems. most notably
with msn explorer and messenger. I did an uninstall and
system restore. I spoke to Dell, they told me I did the
right thing. that I should wait until Sp2 has all the
bugs worked out before installing. do you agree? Could
you tell me either all or the most prominent problems
that are existing with sp2. thanks

Most everyone is installing SP2 without problems. Why Dell told you that is
unimaginable.

I don't know. they've seemed very reliable thus far.
And if you took a poll, they probably have ARGUABLY, and
I do say ARGUABLY the best computer out there, and part
of that is because of service. But enought about that.
I am not sure about your response--I see numerous SP2
problems listed right here in this newsgroup

Numerous SP2 problems? You fail to take in account the fact that there are a
little over 60,000,000 computers just in the US. Dell is arguably a good
computer but their support leaves a lot to be desired. If they don't have an
answer they say 'don't install the SP'. BTW, of the numerous SP2 problems you
do see, how many are Dell? Just in this one newsgroup?
You're in Hell with Dell.

Sounds like a lazy or incompetent tech.
Did the tech say what to wait for?
The SP-2 of today will be identical to SP-2 of next year.
Waiting and doing nothing is nothing but a waste of your time and gets
you of the phone with incompetent tech...good for the techs metrics
but does nothing for you.
While you are waiting research your specific hardware software and
software components.
Call Dell back and get a second opinion.
If there are valid reasons not to install SP-2 the tech should easily
be able to refer to a specific web link explaining why.
If the tech can not, immediately ask for a supervisor to complain
about the incompetence.

To say wait without a reason or a course of action is incompetence.
If the tech gave such information, the OP did not state such.
See my other post.

Thank you. Very pleased with Dell, and they are known
for their superior service. Hardly in hell. Don't have
the stats. But I'm sure Rate of growth for HP and
Gateway no where near the growth rate of Dell the past 5
years. Have a good Day.

Thank you for a valid response to my comment and leading
me in the right direction. and not attacking the dell
computer. As the guy did below. And I refuted that
their sales have increased far greater than hp and
gateway.. seriously, I'll take ur advice. and either
get this sp2 thing going or not. :)
