a right click freezes computer

im using xp pro..when i rightclick on anything, instead of a menu coming up,
i get the hourglass symbol, and the computer freezes..help please..thanks

Run Windows update to try and download any fixes for shoddy patches that
came out previously. Alternatively, run a System restore to before it
started freezing.
