Installed SP2, then couldn't mount the iPod when I went to
synch. I did some research that led me to uninstall SP2,
upgrade the iPod software, then reinstall SP2, but I STILL
can't mount the iPod (I could during the brief time while
SP2 was uninstalled). I'm using a Firewire connection to
the iPod, not USB. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

Try resetting your iPod. Apple.com will have directions for doing it for
each model. For the 4G models with the Click Wheel:

1. Slide Hold on.
2. Slide Hold off.
3. Press Menu and the center button at the same time and hold until the iPod
restarts.

Good luck,

SP2 kills all kinds of Firewire related stuff. It killed my Presonus
FireStation audio interface. Uninstalling SP2 restored the audio
interface functionallity.
