Office 97 will run just fine on Windows XP.

Occasionally, after installing Office 97 on Windows XP or Windows 2000, a
user
may receive the following message: "Microsoft Access can't start because
there is no license for it on this machine." This problem is due, of all
things, to a font. The fix for that problem, should it occur, is found at:

Office 97 works fine with XP on my PC, but I do have service pack 2 for
Office installed. You might need that.
